Hope Through Suffering

Meeting Chayathip was one of the most meaningful experiences of my time volunteering with people with disabilities. Although I initially expected to feel uncertain, I was instead welcomed by a cheerful, intelligent, and humorous young man whose warmth immediately put me at ease.

"Chayathip" loved making people laugh, enjoyed helping others by translating between Thai and Karen, and had a genuine curiosity about learning, especially in math, science, and English.

When I began teaching him English,

I was amazed by how quickly he learned. His enthusiasm and ability to grasp new concepts made every lesson enjoyable. As I learned more about his life, I reflected on the tragic accident that left him bedridden during his final year of high school and wondered what his future might have been.

However, after hearing his testimony and watching from SHALOM's video, I came to see his story from a different perspective. Through the accident, Chayathip met people who introduced him to Jesus, encouraged his faith, and showed him God's love. Although many would only see tragedy, Chayathip found hope, purpose, and freedom from depression through Christ.

His favourite Bible story, Job, also challenged my own faith. Chayathip's unwavering trust in God reminded me that suffering does not mean God has abandoned us. Instead, God can use even our hardest circumstances for His greater purpose. Despite being bedridden, Chayathip continues to encourage and inspire those around him.

Meeting Chayathip became a turning point in my own spiritual journey. At a time when I was struggling with doubts, his testimony reminded me that God's love is real and that every trial has a purpose. Looking back, I believe meeting Chayathip was truly a blessing in disguise, strengthening my faith and helping me trust more deeply in God's plan.
