Lanternlight Ministries

Community Based Rehabilitation & Care of Disabled Persons

Lanternlight Ministry was founded by Jit and Jan Yawan back in 2013, and has been caring for disabled persons and their families ever since. Located in Sangkhlaburi, Thailand, they have been working with others to make sure over 220 people with disabilities living in the local district are looked after. Community activities, family support, advocacy and the provision of appropriate equipment all add to quality of life. This Lanternlight Ministry project provides practical assistance along with the opportunity to hear the Gospel in a way that is meaningful and transformative among these communities.

They work tirelessly to see that those with a disability, and their families, have an improved quality of life through equal opportunities within and outside their communities. It is their desire to see each person develop as an individual, learn new skills and move towards their potential for interdependent and independent living. Through this work, they partner with churches to see the Christian community develop a sense of responsibility towards those in need in their communities.

This project covers the costs of running disability group activities in rural areas, the purchase of specialised equipment to improve quality of life and provide the needs of the team travelling and empowering people with disabilities in this Thai-Myanmar border area.

(The above is an excerpt from their sending agency Baptist Mission Australia. For more information, read here.)

Lanternlight Ministries continues the work of reaching the disabled members and their families through the generous support of partners across the world. We welcome you to join our team in their outreach activities and care for our members.

After many years of dedicated service leading LanternLight in Thailand, Jan continues to support the ministry from Australia. Drawing on her extensive experience and longstanding relationships, she connects with supporters, shares ministry updates, and encourages prayer and financial partnerships to sustain LanternLight’s ongoing work with disabled people in vulnerable communities.
