Helping the Needy

On 26th June 2024, we received news from P that about 300 displaced people fled from fighting and torture in Myanmar, and are temporarily taking shelter in a nearby area. They fled from the Burmese army, which burned down their village, tortured, and killed everyone in their way. They had been hiding in the jungle not far from the village, but the advancement of the Burmese army forced them to flee further across the border, where they had visited before. They traveled through strong river currents, leeches, mosquitoes, and high mountains for six days until they found a safe place to rest. Two out of six villages have arrived, including elderly people, the sick, women, and children. The youngest is only 3 months old.

We had a chance to help them on the next day by screening those who are sick and injured. We assisted patients with diabetes, hypertension, common colds, and allergies from mosquito bites, as well as rashes from jungle herbs. The youngest one has an abscess on his scalp, and we taught them how to change the dressing and donated supplies for the child. We also educated them on self-care in such conditions, maintaining sanitary surroundings where they take shelter, and provided some food and necessary medicines. The local authorities quickly moved them back to the other side of the border for temporary shelter by the next evening.

We may need to help those from the remaining four villages which haven't arrived yet, and prepare ourselves to assist them when they do. We ask for your prayers for their safety, sufficient food, and access to healthcare. Pray for us to be ready and have wisdom to provide necessary help. Thank you for your prayers and support.
