Lanternlight Ministries
Community Based Rehabilitation & Care of Disabled Persons
Lanternlight Ministry was founded by Jit and Jan Yawan back in 2013, and has been caring for disabled persons and their families ever since. Located in Sangkhlaburi, Thailand, they have been working with others to make sure over 220 people with disabilities living in the local district are looked after. Community activities, family support, advocacy and the provision of appropriate equipment all add to quality of life. This Lanternlight Ministry project provides practical assistance along with the opportunity to hear the Gospel in a way that is meaningful and transformative among these communities.
They work tirelessly to see that those with a disability, and their families, have an improved quality of life through equal opportunities within and outside their communities. It is their desire to see each person develop as an individual, learn new skills and move towards their potential for interdependent and independent living. Through this work, they partner with churches to see the Christian community develop a sense of responsibility towards those in need in their communities.
This project covers the costs of running disability group activities in rural areas, the purchase of specialised equipment to improve quality of life and provide the needs of the team travelling and empowering people with disabilities in this Thai-Myanmar border area.

Many of their beneficiaries also receive care from SHALOM. As Lanternlight scales down its involvement, their management team has approached SHALOM to take over the care of these persons, allowing for the continuity of care in the future. Over the next year, the administration, financial reporting, and management of care for disabled persons will be transitioned over, and the funding for this ministry will be fully under SHALOM by 2025.
